Mozilla Creative Collective: Achievement Badges
Just yesterday I wrote about some of the ways we’re going to encourage participation within the Creative Collective, and one of them was through the concept of badges (which are digital icons awarded to members for their contributions). Below are the first set of designs from Airbag Industries, along with a preview of how these achievements would be stamped on your portfolio. The designs take inspiration from the simplistic feel of various video games, and the color palette of the Creative Collective logo for a striking yet playful result. We’re really excited about these and think that they’ll be a great way to add more fun (and social capital) to the overall experience. My personal favorite is “Pixel Charmer”. What do you think?

Badges is a great idea.
I follow the conception of the creation of this community with a great interest.
Thank you for sharing these important steps.

I love this idea! It’s a great way to foster healthy competition and participation within the community. Really, I’m a fan of badges in general. Have you seen Nerd Merit Badges? Brilliant stuff.
Oh and Pixel Charmer is my fave, too

Wow, what a really great implementation of this concept! I don’t think I can emphasize that enough.
SUMO has talked about recognition and rewards for contributors without trying to turn it into a straight rating of contributors. I think this concept would translate really well to all of Mozilla’s projects that rely heavily on nondeveloper community contribution. I would really love to see what could be done with this concept and SUMO or SFx and even AMO.
It’s such a great cross-section of contributions recognized. I think “The Producer” is my favorite because it finds a way to recognize something really subtle – it’s rewarding *inspiration.* How exciting!

These are great, Tara, really great. I love the badging idea in general, too; we need to find better ways of increasing recognition of people who help develop ideas as well as create and produce them.
